Seresin Estate Syrah 2016

100% Syrah from Seresin's Raupo Creek vineyard in the Omaka Valley of Marlborough.

Fruit was hand-sorted, destemmed and cooled. After pre-fermentation steeping, the juice was warmed and fermented with wild yeast, and the caps hand-plunged twice daily.  Left on skins for 5 weeks of post-ferment maceration; drained, lightly pressed and transferred to French oak barriques for 10 months, blended and transferred to puncheon for 8 months. The wine went through natural malolactic fermentation during 18 months maturation, before it was bottled unfiltered and unfined.

Winemaker's Comments

Displays light floral elements with hints of black pepper and spice. Very elegant and supple, this is a beautiful expression of cool climate Syrah that shows the diversity and strength of the Raupo Vineyard.

WINE OF THE WEEK - Joanna Simon Wine and Food, Sept 2018
"It's always a thrill to taste a debut vintage, not least when it's from an estate you've long admired. Seresin in Marlborough, founded and steered by filmmaker Michael Seresin, makes beautiful wines, especially Pinot Noirs from different vineyards, but this is the first Syrah and it's characteristically expressive and pure. It's very much in the cool-climate Crozes-Hermitage mould with tangy red berry fruit and savoury white pepper, black olive and salty mineral notes underscored by fine tannins."
