90% Merlot and 10% Malbec from the finest parcels grown in Villa Maria's Gimblett Gravels vineyards planted in the Hawkes Bay region.
Destemmed grapes were crushed and the must plunged 4 times daily, spending 3 to 4 weeks on its skins. Fermentation was in open-top stainless steel vessels at 30-32ºC. Malolactic fermentation occurred in 100% French oak barrels, 3 year dried fine-grain and 42% new. Matured for 20 months with 3 rack and returns. Egg white fining tool place during the last racking and pre-filtration. Minimal filtration before bottling.
Displays fragrant red plum, berry fruit and violet aromas enhanced by subtle oak. Blending with a small percentage of Malbec has introduced complexing spice and blackberry fruit notes. An elegant wine which will mature gracefully, adding complexity.
