100% Chardonnay from the Keltern Vineyard located east of the Maraekakaho region in Hawkes Bay. With an outstanding track record of awards and accolades, this vineyard has truly established itself as a premier site for Chardonnay.
Fruit was whole bunch pressed and 100% barrique fermented using wild and inoculated yeasts. The barriques were 50% new with the balance 1 and 2 year old. Matured for 10 months in barrique. Battonage occurred once weekly during malolactic fermentation and 58% for full term. Filtered using sterile bell house filtration, one pass only.
Youthful and reserved, tightly bound aromas with hints of lemon, yellow grapefruit and gunsmoke intermingling with nuts and crushed rock. The palate is sleek and refined, the intensity of flavour immense yet understated and pure. Texturally showcased by chalky acidity and subtle grainy oak influences, will age superbly to unfold complex mineral and toast-like characters.
