Seifried Estate is the oldest winery in New Zealand’s South Island. Austrian-born Hermann Seifried and his Kiwi wife Agnes planted their first vines in 1973 in the delightful Nelson region. Approaching 50 years later, the Seifrieds export to 25 countries and their wines regularly win awards at international wine competitions. Far from taking a back seat, Hermann and Agnes are still very much involved and delighted to have their three children, Heidi, Chris and Anna working alongside them.
Varietal and sustainably produced, Seifried wines are made with a purity that reflect the Nelson soil, climate and passion of a family business. Seifried has a diverse offering of traditional varieties – Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Gris, but also a portfolio including varieties which hark back to Hermann’s European roots - Grὒner Veltliner, Gewὒrztraminer and Zweigelt. Their bubbly, Aotea Méthode Traditionnelle is not to be missed, a delicious blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with 4 years lees contact.
Seifried Estate made history in 2019 when their Seifried Sauvignon Blanc took the Champion Sauvignon Blanc and Best Wine trophies at the New Zealand Wine of the Year Show – the first time ever for a Nelson winery.
