Viognier is yielding promising wines in New Zealand, and when fermented in old oak barrels produces robust, high-alcohol wines; perfume-scented with restrained flavours, subtle acidity and good weight. A good match for many food styles, its scented character works well with Asian cuisine, such as stir-fried prawns and noodles, or alternatively serve with delicate, creamy dishes.
