100% Pinot Gris from Ata Rangi's Lismore Vineyard at the edge of the Martinborough Terrace. The vines are now 22 years old with roots that have driven metres deep into the gravels, and consistently deliver grapes with heightened texture and flavour.
Fruit was hand-picked and whole bunch pressed, with the juice cold settled. A combination of inoculated and natural ferments in small stainless tanks and 500 litre oak puncheons; in both cases left on lees for several months. No malolactic fermentation.
Up-front aromas are reminiscent of pear drop and creamy white peach with fresh ginger and lemon grass notes, underpinned by more savoury brioche-like notes on the finish. The palate lingers with an elegant delicacy. A relatively low amount of residual sugar makes this Pinot Gris a delicious stand-alone aperitif, whilst also great with food.
