Greywacke Chardonnay 2016

100% Chardonnay from the lower reaches of the Brancott Valley and Fairhall, with a portion coming from Renwick and Rapaura, all located within the Marlborough region.

Fruit was hand-picked and whole bunch pressed using low maceration press cycles. The resulting juice was lightly settled and racked to 20% new French oak barriques. Allowed to undergo spontaneous indigenous yeast fermentation with occasional lees stirring. Underwent complete malolactic fermentation, transferred out of oak after 18 months.

Winemaker's Comments

An alluring combination of kumquats, peaches and yellow grapefruit melds with the more savoury aromas of almond nougat, vanilla beans and marzipan; an opulent concoction that is infused with a charry smokiness. The savouriness carries through onto a wonderfully dry, but rich and powerful palate that has great texture and concentration; evidence of this wine’s low-intervention genesis.

"Aromas of lime and apple peel. Medium-full, this displays mature fruit and a subtle touch of wood, along with good acidity and subdued yellow spice notes in the finish. Very impressive complexity, this is quite stylish. 2-3 years. Excellent"
