Greywacke Chardonnay 2013

100% Chardonnay from Marlborough, specifically the lower reaches of the Brancott Valley and Fairhall, with some from Rapaura.

Fruit was hand-picked separately at high ripeness levels and whole bunch pressed using low maceration press cycles, then settled and racked to 20% new French oak barriques. The juice underwent spontaneous indigenous yeast fermentation. Received occasional lees stirring and completed malolactic fermentation. Transferred out of oak after 18 months and left on yeast lees for a further 2 months.

Winemaker's Comments

Delicious pink grapefruit, figs and baked apples intertwine with savoury characters redolent of meadow hay, toasted hazelnuts and buttered brioche. This grapefruit and nutty savouriness pervades the crisp palate, while the power and concentration of the Mendoza clone creates an extraordinarily long finish that lingers and lingers.
