100% Pinot Noir from Palliser's East Base, Clouston, Wharekauhau and Winery sites in Martinborough; vine age 5-18 years old.
Fruit was fully destemmed; indigenous yeast used, and fermented with approx 5% whole bunches, the wine spending on average 15 days on skins. Aged 12 months in 25% new oak casks.
A soft and voluminous nose, with unfolding subtle layers of dark-red berry fruits melded with dark herbs, nuances of spice and liquorice, and an ethereal array of red florals. The palate displays soft red berry fruit flavours melded with fragrant dark herbs, red florals, spices and liquorice. The fruit has a delicate richness and sweetness balanced by very fine-grained supple tannins and ripe acidity. The flavours blossom in floral lift and spice detail, which carries to a gently lingering, nuanced finish.
