100% Pinot Noir sourced from the company’s Palliser, Clouston, East Base, Pinnacles and Wharekauhau vineyards, and the Collins vineyard, all in the Martinborough region.
The quality of the fruit that has gone into Pencarrow has never been better, partly from the continued improvements in viticulture and increasing vine age. Upon harvest the fruit was given a cool soak, then indigenous yeast fermented with approx 5% whole clusters. After time on skins the wine was aged 11 months in 27% new oak.
Well-packed with rich flavours of dark-red berry and plum fruit with notes of liquorice, spices, dried herbs and subtle oak elements. The mouthfeel has good presence with fine, grainy tannin structure supporting the fruit and providing weight and body. The acidity is integrated and the wine carries positively to a moderately fulsome, lingering, rounded finish of savoury berry and plum fruit.
