Martinborough's most planted and highly acclaimed grape variety is Pinot Noir
Martinborough Wine - Martinborough, as well as being a town, is the oldest and best known wine area within the Wairarapa wine region of Wellington. The region's vineyards tend to be planted on high alluvial terraces with deep stony and free draining soils. Climatically Wairarapa is more aligned to Marlborough than to any of the North Island wine regions and the success and style of its Sauvignon Blanc is evidence of this alliance, however Pinot Noir is the region's most planted and highly acclaimed grape variety.
