Ata Rangi's 2018 Célèbre is a wonderful Bordeaux/Rhône inspired blend and a distinctive style as a bright, high-energy red with real concentration and a rich, mouth-filling texture.

The Célèbre yields from fruit sourced from vineyards on the Martinborough Terrace, close to the Ata Rangi winery. The wine was aged for 17 months in (20% new) oak barriques to add structure and complexity.

Ata rangi was established on a former sheep paddock in 1980 by Clive Paton who bought the land using the proceeds from the sale of his own herd. Today, the estate has a worldwide reputation as one of Martinborough’s finest vineyards.

Ata Rangi continues to be owned and run by Clive Paton and his wife Phyll, together with Clive's sister Alison and winemaker Helen Masters. Clive is an avid conservationist, and was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his contribution to both viticulture and conservation in New Zealand. In January 2019, Helen was awarded 2019 New Zealand Winemaker of the Year by Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine.

The name Ata Rangi means ‘dawn sky’ or ‘new beginning’ in Maori and is a small New Zealand winery.

Celebre has always had its own distinctive style as a bright, high-energy red with real concentration, and a rich, mouth-filling texture. Abundant aromatics with ripe blueberry, boysenberry and redcurrant notes meeting more exotic notes of star-anise. Long, fine, savoury tannins across the palate and the bracken-like earthiness from the Cabernet portions builds complexity, while the Syrah brings spice and fresh balanced acidity to the finish.
