The Donaldson family has been involved in wine since the early 1970’s and are pioneers of local winemaking. Pegasus Bay remains an entirely family-owned and operated enterprise in the Waipara Valley, where the vineyard gets maximum protection from the Pacific’s easterly breezes.
The secret behind the Pegasus success story is the husband and wife winemaking team of Lynnette Hudson and Matt Donaldson who practice minimal interference. The couple allow a climate of warm days and cool nights to extract perfectly ripe, rich fruit while retaining wonderful freshness and the essence of their wonderful soils, which are farmed using natural methods. The soil is free draining and low fertility, producing yields of ripe, high quality, flavourful grapes.
