Felton Road Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2017

100% Pinot Noir from four of Felton Road's vineyards; Cornish Point, Calvert, MacMuir and The Elms, located in the Bannockburn area of Central Otago.

Unique gravity flow enabled fruit to be destemmed into open-top fermenters without pumping, retaining 21% whole clusters. Traditional fermentation with a moderately long maceration on skins. Aged 13 months in 22% new French oak barrels from artisan Burgundian coopers. In accordance with Felton Road's non-interventionalist approach, the wine was fermented with indigenous yeast and not fined or filtered.

Winemaker's Comments

The aromas lead to a bright and lifted combination of red and dark fruits with considerable florals. On the palate there is a combination of transparency, power and tension. A silky entry of spice and savoury notes expand to pure, deep fruits braced with acidity, but luscious throughout. It has a finely woven latticework frame: intricate and detailed with a strong sense of longevity. This exemplary wine is a blend of four properties that elegantly express the graceful and more subtle side of Pinot Noir from Bannockburn.

THE BUYER "New Felton Road 2017 vintage plus 21 years anniversary tasting" held at 67 Pall Mall, article written by Roger Jones, Sept 2018
"They call the Bannockburn their ‘Village’ Pinot, sourced from what is needed from both their Calvert and Cornish Point selected barrels and produces a perfect and exceptional value and introduction to their Pinots. Cherry on the nose, quite luscious and sweet perfume, on the palate rippling raspberry with a touch of sourness, vanilla, it’s balanced and drinking well even now."
