Saint Clair's Pioneer Block 1 Foundation Sauvignon Blanc is a powerful, tropical fruits Marlborough style from fruit sourced from a single vineyard owned by the Sowman family on the fertile, free-draining soils of the region's prestigious lower Wairau Valley.
This batch of vines was selected as a Pioneer Block wine due to its power and intensity of flavour.
Saint Clair was established in 1978 by the husband and wife team of Neal and Judy Ibbotson, who were true pioneers of Marlborough, which back then was a largely untapped and undiscovered wine region. The Saint Clair name originates from the vineyard property they took over, originally planted by James Sinclair.
Saint Clair remains a family business and the Ibbotson’s are aided by son Tony and daughters Sarina and Julie who take care of marketing and sales. They also employ one of New Zealand’s leading winemaking teams.
